Creating a smartphone is complex and demands the creation and integration of many software and hardware elements. With S60 moving into the mass market, driven by operators and consumers interest, it's increasingly important to help S60 OEM-licensees bring new smartphones to market quickly.
S60 Product Creation Community (S60 PCC) was created in 2003 to accelerate the crucial steps in bringing S60 phones to market. The members of the community offer S60 OEM-licensees expert help with all aspects of S60 smartphone development, including software integration, hardware implementation and customization of the S60 software package.
The members are chosen, in cooperation with Symbian and S60 OEM-licensees, based on the competencies and level of support needed in creating an S60 phone. The goal is to provide a range of expertise from which terminal vendors can choose. The companies are among the best in the industry and have proven skills in developing devices based on S60 on Symbian OS.
The S60 PCC structure, divides the members into five categories: Device Integrators (DVI), Semiconductor Integrators (SMI), Technology Integrators (TCI), Competence Centers (CC), and Affiliate Members (AFM). Each member was carefully selected and required to meet stringent qualification criteria. Below are descriptions on each category's special skills.
